Alienware m15x

Alienware … out of this world

Alienware have always produced some of the sleekist sexiest laptops known to geekdom and with their latest M15x this tradition is set to continue. There is no doubt in my mind by looking at the sensual curves of the Alienware that they have crafted something rather special.

In a world of huge, bulky and ugly laptops they stand out as a sophisticated machine for the discerning enthusiast.

When Alienware contacted us to review this laptop we jumped at the chance because we have always been admirers of their design ethic. This laptop features Core 2 Extreme Edition processor and Nvidia 8800M GTX graphics as well as the ability to use dual hard drives or batteries via Smart Bay Technology. You can also kit the machine out with a glossy screen at 1920×1200 and it comes as standard with a plethora of lighting and power management technology courtesy of Alienware’s Command Center. Couple this with the ability to switch between the Nvidia 8800 series card and integrated graphics and you are beginning to touch the surface of its true potential. Oh yes, did I mention there was also HDMI out for media center functionality?

The 3d style Alienware Head on the lid

We are all used to "studio" style pictures in these reviews, however as this laptop is so striking we felt it was worth introducing a few of it in genuine real world environment. As you can see the chassis is extremely glossy and rather striking in design…

When we specified the machine we opted for the Extreme Edition processor and 8800 GTX M but I felt that running at 1920×1200 on a 15.4 inch screen was pushing the boundaries of eye strain. I speak from experience after running a 17 inch Dell laptop at this resolution for almost 6 months now. I opted for a more usable real world 1440×900 configuration.
