Corsair HX1000W PSU

Corsair HX1000W PSU

Introduction

Everyone knows Corsair for their high quality ram modules however recently their power supply units have been getting a lot of attention. The initial units were a great success and some of them survived for many months without any revisions. Corsair launched only a small series of power supplies aimed towards enthusiasts, dubbed the “HX series”, these have been a great success.

Soon after that they launched another two series, the “TX” and “VX”. The VX series units are aimed towards the value-conscious PC users while the TX series consist of high output units but without unnecessary features or aesthetic add-ons, aimed towards enthusiasts who are seeking to get the best value out of their purchase.

Today we will take a look at the latest and most powerful Corsair power supply, the HX1000W. As the name suggests, it is part of the HX series and has a maximum continuous power output of 1000W. Corsair claims that this unit will not only output 1000W of DC power but that it can do so at 50C while preserving an 80%+ efficiency across the entire power range. We are interested to see if the unit can live up to these claims.

The unit is secured very well inside the package which is held between two thick soft Styrofoam pieces. The PSU is also protected by a simple plastic bag. Inside the package you will find a detailed manual, black screws, a sticker with the company’s logo and several cable ties. There is also a bag with all of the modular cables inside. The modular cables are not sleeved, but they are ‘flat’ cables and entirely black.
