Valve continues to impress us with additions to their Source engine and the latest episode in the Half-Life 2 franchise adds excellent outdoor environments. Testing was performed at 1920×1200 and 2560×1600 with 8x anti-aliasing and 16x anisotropic filtering. All game settings were at their maximum level.

Half-Life 2 performance returns us to the same trend of results we saw earlier in the review with the 4870 X2 outperforming the GTX 280 across all the results. There are a few areas where the GeForce is competitive, such as the all important minimum frames per second. As with most of the previous results, the Asus TOP variant has the edge over the reference with an increase of around 6-7fps average.
