Qnap TS-509 Pro NAS

On First Page2. The Unit

Introduction

QNAP are a company well known for making class leading NAS systems for home and office use. Today we are testing the newest device in their range the TS-509 Pro which features support for 5TB as well as 2 x Gigabit RJ-45 ethernet ports.

The unit is supplied in a hefty foam padded box with a smaller box inside containing a power cable, manual, CD-ROM and 2 network cables. The main body is capable of holding up to 5 hard drives and these are catered for by individual drive cages.

Despite the fact this unit can hold 5 drives it is reasonably sized at around 26cm deep, 19cm wide and 26cm high. Each of these 5 bays can hold Sata or SataII hard drives and they are hot swappable, additionally each drive can be locked to prevent anyone from accidentally removing them while in use.

Currently the unit is only limited by the size of individual drives which right now is around the 1TB mark, so a total maximum of 5TB is possible. Let’s have a look at the unit on the next page.
