AMA Serac 770 Watercooling

On First Page2. AMA Serac 770 Watercooling

Introduction

Enthusiasts have been watercooling computers for years, allowing them to run massive overclocks while keeping components cool with minimum noise. However, despite the advantages, the majority of users tend to overlook watercooling as an option when building a computer. There are a number of reasons for this, the first being cost. Air cooling generally requires less overhead and a high end cooler will ultimately be sufficient for the majority of users. On the other hand, watercooling can provide similar or better thermal performance in an almost silent environment, while most traditional air cooled setups providing similar temperatures can be loud.

Another issue with watercooling is that it isn’t always as easy to setup which has undoubtedly scared off a lot of potential users. However, you can pick up kits which come with all the gear you need and are fairly straightforward to assemble. Today we’re going to look at a kit from a new manufacturer, the Serac 770 from AMA. It is a reasonably compact kit which aims to provide easy installation and an effective cooling solution.

Packaging & Bundle

The Serac 770 arrives in a relatively attractive box with a glossy reflective finish.  The front has two circular windows, allowing us to see the radiator and water block through the packaging. AMA has provided some pretty good looking equipment with the kit, so the windowed display works and draws attention well. It has a fitting name too, Serac being a word used to describe blocks of ice that form on glaciers.

The sides contain the specifications and information on a couple of the key features. On the back we see the kit set up on an Asus Striker II Extreme motherboard, which clearly illustrates the market they are targeting.

Once opened, the packaging reveals another box and a Styrofoam piece containing the kit. Sitting in the Styrofoam are the three major components of the kit; the radiator, pump/reservoir, and the water block.
