The LGA775 socket has been the king of the hill for more than two years now, and even with the groundbreaking Nehalem architecture coming to market the current range of Intel processors still make sense for many consumers.

That said, the current offerings from manufacturers may be the last motherboards of this generation. The motherboard is the most critical component of a computer system. It enables all the various pieces of hardware to speak to each other, to enable the flow of data and act as a nervous system for the network of components.

Gigabyte is a company who have enjoyed prominence in the world of computer hardware for many years now. Founded in 1986, they’ve made a name for themselves manufacturing cutting edge motherboards and VGA solutions. They also offer a selection of other products from pre-built PC’s to network equipment and mobile phones. It is in manufacturing motherboards though where their true passion is, and today we’re going to look at the EP45-DS3R, one of the inexpensive options among a plethora of offerings from the company.
