Tomb Raider: Underworld

The new Tomb Raider game was released shortly before Christmas with a brand new game engine which is also slated to underpin the upcoming Deus Ex 3. The environments are immersive and coupled with beautiful models the game looks exquisite. We tested the game at 1920×1200 and 2560×1600 with 4xAA and 16xAF.

The first aspect of the Underworld results which are worth noting is that it is very clear that multi-GPU scaling does not currently work in the ATI drivers. The best performance comes from the single 4870. This leaves the Nvidia cards with their excellent scaling to produce framerates which have no competition. The highest performing system is the 295 Quad SLI though the 285 SLI is not far behind.
