Overclocking/Thermal Performance

To overclock the GeForce and Radeon cards we used the inbuilt overclocking utilities which are accessed through the driver control panels. Both Nvidia System tools and ATI Overdrive allow us to move sliders to increase the clock speed manually but ATI offer an additional step, Auto-Tune where the software attempts to find the maximum overclock on its own.

On the GTS we were able to achieve some modest overclocks of 58MHz core and 106MHz memory with the Radeon, a card which is already factory overclocked, increasing by 83MHz and 71MHz.

Temperatures

The temperatures below were measured using Everest Ultimate and show the GPU readings when at the desktop and when under 100% load. As the results show the GTS 250 with its standard cooling provides excellent temperatures in 2D. When we put both GPUs into a situation where they are fully loaded the GTS 250 has a larger increase in temperature which takes it above the 4850 and shows that XFX have chosen an impressive cooler for their XXX card.
