Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 – PS3: GH @ E3

GamingHeaven is over at E3 and we had some hands on time with a playable demo of Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2. This demo features Ayane, however the final version will also feature Rachel from the original Ninja Gaiden and Momiji from Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword on the DS.

The game has already been released on the Xbox 360 and has not only been well received by critics but proved to be a big seller as well. There has been much attention placed on the Playstation 3 version which is due for release later this year and although there really isn’t much to report we managed to snag some video footage as well as images for publication.

So what’s new in the Playstation 3 version? Well we have access to the new character Ayane and the code has been overhauled to get maximum performance from the Playstation 3 hardware. Spending some time with the demo we are happy to report that the frame rates are super smooth and didn’t suffer from any dips or issues of note.

Ayane is an interesting character and she is capable of performing a lot of spin attacks as well as aerial moves to destroy the enemy in her way. She doesn’t really seem to be much faster than Ryu but her combat style is different in that she performs a lot of quick slashing attacks to cause damage. Her style of combat is very attractive and looks different when compared to the other characters so her addition should be very welcome to the overall experience.

We chatted to the Tecmo rep for a while and we were informed that the Playstation 3 version is not a port across but instead has been coded from the ground up to ensure that gamers get as much as possible from the capable Sony hardware.

Although this is a short preview, once we get our hands on a later build of the code in the near future we will post more reports on GamingHeaven before final release later this year.
