Fallout 3: Mothership Zeta (PC)

In all the Fallout games there has always been a downed alien space ship and if you had been exploring the wastelands of Fallout 3 you would have already noticed it …. sending out an ominous distress call. This call gets answered and once again Bethesda Game Studios have a foundation for another downloadable expansion pack for their hugely successful futuristic title.

Fallout 3: Mothership Zeta (PC)

Help With Law Essay Writing Mothership Zeta starts off with a bang in the form of your abduction by a malevolent group of aliens. You primary objective is to escape and find a way back to Earth. To achieve these goals you have to meet up with some other captured humans and fight your way through the hostile gargantuan space ship. Unsurprisingly, the aliens don’t sit back and passively watch and you are facing new enemies as well as a new breed of robots.

As with all Fallout games there are rules of ethic and conduct and if you kill innocent creatures it has an effect on your karma. For instance if you kill some of the worker aliens then this is classed as hurting an innocent, a rather weird decision in the grand scheme of things, especially as they are a part of your abduction.

We looked at previous expansion packs for the Fallout series at Gamingheaven and much like Operation Anchorage there is a strong focus on the combat element of the game. Not an unwelcome decision but you do spend most of the game wandering through alien rooms shooting and hacking alien monsters trying to escape. The game kept me entertained throughout, however near the end it was getting a little stale, perhaps I have been playing this series too much because I felt there was nothing dramatically ‘new’ on offer.

Some of the level design however is fantastic and once you get to the space walk section you will know exactly what I am talking about, it is a stunning piece of design which deserves a special mention. There are many alien weapons on offer with Mothership Zeta and some of them are great fun to use, but perhaps nothing out of ordinary when you recall the original alien blaster gun we had access to before in the original title.

Fallout 3: Mothership Zeta (PC)

Business Plan Writer Futurpreneur Overall I enjoyed the game, and the graphics are still first class, but the one thing I took from the experience was the fact that nothing was very original or different from the previous outings. Sure, you are in a new alien environment but they could have gotten more from this than they did at the end of the day. It ends up basically a straightforward alien run and gun title.

Fallout 3: Mothership Zeta (PC)

I had this completed in a couple of hours and I felt a little underwhelmed by the offering – it really is very short and offers virtually no replay value which is disappointing.

If you are a fan of the series then this will obviously warrant a purchase, but casual Fallout gamers (if there is such a thing) may want to skip this one. It is a short lived experience and the exciting prospect of a new alien world to explore becomes sadly quite mundane after an hour of in game time. It isn’t bad by any stretch of the imagination, but it is a sadly missed opportunity.
