Driver Heaven Photoshop V3 Benchmark (64bit)

Most people are tired of running 3dmark and Pcmark and similar benchmarks, while these are visually attractive benchmarks they are not in many cases indicative of real world situations, this is not the case with Photoshop. This is a real world application with a myriad of uses appealing to all users from digital photographers to budding graphic designers. It is also a wonderful test of all round system performance, specifically memory bandwidth and CPU processing power. For full information and links to download this bench for yourself and to compare scores with other Driver Heaven members, head over here.

We are using Photoshop CS4 64-Bit for this testing.

When testing Photoshop performance we see that the extra cache on the Phenom 2 X4 810 makes quite a difference in this test. The Phenom finishes nearly ten seconds ahead of the Athlon 2 with tests such as Extrude showing real benefits from use of the L3 cache.

Intel Core i7-4790K (Devil's Canyon) CPU Review featuring Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 5

Last month Intel launched their Z97 chipset, essentially an evolution of Z87, which in many cases brought new features such as SATA Express and M.2 compatibility to the mainstream desktop market. There was of course no new CPU at that time with the existing socket 1150 processors working without issue in the new boards. Since then though Intel launched (along with some lower spec models) the Core i7-4790K, a model which sits at the top of their mainstream platform. Today we see how it compares to various other models when installed on Gigabytes Z97X Gaming 5 and paired with PowerColors new dual core 290X Devil 13.
