Interview with Codemasters: OFP DR

We reviewed Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising a short while ago and our impressions were extremely positive. Our reviewer John Erikson said "Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is a thinking mans strategic first person shooter with a strong emphasis on a realistic damage model which makes the whole experience very high tension as you can be taken out in the blink of an eye. Every decision you make in the game has a repercussion which can sometimes be dramatically positive or equally fatal. Online with your friends the game takes on a life of its own and will appeal to a group of close friends who want to work heavily within a team environment."

High praise indeed with an overall scores of 90%, and the game was given our Editor’s Choice Award as well as the Teamwork award for true excellence in the online environment.

Codemasters recently invited us to their Headquarters for an exclusive interview with two of the Developers for OF: DR – Tim Browne (Senior Games Designer) and James Nicholls (Chief Mission designer). We knew our readers would love to hear their inside thoughts, so we rushed with our trusty camera equipment and asked them a series of relevant questions about this great new game.

In this first part of the interview we ask the developers about the number of people who worked on the game, the kind of research they did into real world sounds and features, the use of the Game engine and how difficult the game feels to play.
Continuing on in part two we hear about the kind of players that they wanted to attract to OFP:DR, the size of the game world and if it was based on a real location, the reasons for the original delay and lack of demo, and the massive amount of work they put into developing the sound for the game.
In the final part of the interview the developers talk more about the different games modes and any plans for adding a few more, how they are supporting the community including game Mods and a spectator mode, and if any downloadable content will be on the cards. The interview rounds up with some community questions for the Developers including their favourite retro game.

We hope you enjoyed the interview and we would like to thank our colleagues on our esports side for their support in the making of these videos. If you like to game online be sure to check out our sister site TEK 9
