Microsoft confirm Windows XP mode RTM

Microsoft have confirmed that the Windows XP mode which is a featureset of Windows 7 Professional and Windows 7 Ultimate has moved to Release To Manufacturing Status – confirming it will be available in tandem with the release of Windows 7.

As stated on the official Windows 7 Blog the final release of Windows XP mode will be available for download from the 22nd of October which should keep a lot of potential customers very happy indeed especially those in the business sector. The specialised version of Microsoft Virtual PC has been created to run legacy applications without issues – this was a major concern that slowed down the adoption of Windows Vista in the past.

The only downside is the requirement for either AMD Virtualisation or Intel Virtualisation Technology which means that processors including models such as the E7500, E8190, E4700, Q8200 or Q8300 are not supported.
