Nvidia plans to bring GPU acceleration to security scans

We all know how painful a virus scan can be, especially some of the automated ones that can occur at the most inconvenient times (if you don’t bother setting them up!).

Nvidia told Driverheaven this morning that they plan on speeding up the virus scan process by offloading the workload to the graphics processor. The only issue is obviously getting the software developer to create the anti virus application via CUDA – which is a C programming based work environment which directly utilises the graphics processor.

It is a great idea in theory, but whether it comes to fruitition right now is anyone’s guess.
