Legal wrangle over Vapor chamber patent

Convergence, a branch of Hong Kong based CT Electronics are attempting to sue Hewlett Packard, Microloops and Sapphire over the vapour chamber cooling patent, number 7,422,053. A similar lawsuit has been dismissed in a Taiwanese court recently on the basis that the patents “lacked novelty and inventiveness.”.

We spoke with Bill Donnelly in Sapphire a short while ago and he was not willing to comment on the situation right now as it is ongoing however we know that Microloops supply the coolers to Sapphire so we are pretty sure they will not be affected directly.

Even though a Taiwanese court has dismissed this, Convergence are taking their case to the US Court with their CEO Steven H. Lee stating publically “it is unfortunate that venture capital was scarce in Hong Kong, which gave other companies the opportunity to exploit our weakness, but we have the best vapor chamber technology in the world.”

He then said “although lawsuits are currently only being brought against these three companies, Convergence maintains the right to take legal actions against other end users at a later time – it is therefore important for the market to note that authorised sellers will be published on our website and authorised products will be labelled with our logo and the aforementioned patent number.”
