Sony e-reader demand

Sony Corporation told Heaven Media last night that unprecidented demand for their new e-reader device is going to cause shipping delays.

A Sony spokesperson said the e-book device which is going to cost $400 would be sold on a strictly “first come, first served basis.” The device is called The Daily Edition and is built around serving news and media content, much like a virtual newspaper.

“A huge amount of people have asked to be notified of the Daily’s availability over the previous couple of months and the demand is very much more than we expected” said the spokesperson.

The Daily Edition, Sony’s first wireless e-reader was launched in August to give competition to the Amazon Kindle which while holding top market position has received a mixed reception from industry experts. Sony’s device is set to give immediate competition and will probably end up on the best seller list over the Christmas holidays.

Sonystyle say that pre-orders for the device will be shipping from December the 18th to January 8th, although there are very few assurances of the actual delivery dates.
