Aliens Versus Predator Ban Overturned In Australia

The Aliens Vs Predator reboot is one of the most hotly anticipated games of 2010, but it seemed for a while that gamers in Australia were going to be deprived of the opportunity to play it.

The Australian Classification Review Board had taken the stance that they would not provide a classification for the game on the basis of the violent content within. The decision meant it would be illegal to distribute the game within the country.

Sega, the game’s publisher, launched a formal appeal and it was one that had been based on no compromise. Rebellion, the creative minds behind the game, had gone on the record saying they would not be releasing a “sanitised” version of the game to try and get round the ruling.

Upon the successful appeal the game has now been given a rating of MA 15+ and have now decided that while the violence was initially cause for concern, the fact that it is “fantastical in nature and justified by the context of the game” means that it is fine to receive classification, even if it is the highest rating available in Australia.

Aliens Versus Predator is due for a February release on PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox360.
