China launch worlds fastest passenger train

China have recently launched a new, high speed passenger train service which is capable of getting you to your destination in the blink of an eye. The Harmony express train travelled from Guangzhou to the central China city of Wuhan – which worked out at 684 miles in under three hours. When you compare this with the previous rail service time of 11 hours it is a massive time saving.

The Harmony train has a top speed of 394kph/245mph and it averaged a speed of 217mph which is much faster than Japan’s Shinkansen, otherwise known as ‘The Bullet Train’ which can hit 300kph/186 mph.

The Harmony system cost a massive $17 billion and took four and a half years to create and first class tickets cost $114/£71 a journey which wouldn’t make it practical for daily commuters. Second class works out around $72/£45 a piece … which is still expensive.
