Illustrator vector graphics editor flaw

Product image

There is a new security hole in Adobe Illustrator which is causing a case of panic amongst the graphics community. There is a zero day flaw in the editor which means that users can accidentally open a maliciously coded EPS file which can leave them open for attack. If this hole is successfully exploited it can cause a memory corruption issue which can allow malware to be triggered.

Both Illustrator CS3 and CS4 are affected and security firm Secunia have stated that Windows XP is the most affected, even if it is fully patched.

Adobe state: “Adobe is aware of a report of a potential vulnerability in Adobe Illustrator CS4 (CVE-2009-4195). We are currently investigating this issue and will have an update once we have more information. It appears that this issue would require a local user to take the action of opening a malicious .eps file in Illustrator.”

Adobe are set to release an update to fix this issue, hopefully by next week.
