Netbook sales due to double in 2010

Product image

2009 has certainly been the year of the netbook. Sales figures show that netbooks took the market by storm with sales doubling from the year before. 33.3 million were sold in 2009 compared to 16.4 million in 2008 and they account for over 20 percent of all notebook shipments which is an incredible figure, especially considering they started out as the product of a very niche market.

Industry sources reckon with the new Intel processors in 2010 and the extremely competitive costs that 2010 could see the netbook accounting for around 35-40% of all notebook sales. If the prices remain around the same as this year but with slightly more powerful hardware then we think this could be perfectly feasible. Mainstream Notebooks on the other hand dropped a few percentage points with 129.6 million sales when compared with 136.3 million the year before.
