No porn in China

Chinese Internet users will have less access to porn and warezed materials in 2010 as the government has launched an ‘anti porn’ programme for 2010.

One of the integral parts to the new scheme is WAP site registration with each sites registration information being verified before it goes live. Additionally the government plan to go beyond WAP sites to target third party payment companies who are involved in providing online porn.

“If they do not take up proper actions, they will be held for the breach of duty,” they said in a statement reported by Chinese media.  “In those serious cases, the corporate representatives will be forced to apologize to the public and promise to correct their wrong-doings in public.”

A few web hosts in Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Henan and Shanghai have been calling their hosts to complain that they can no longer get access to their own personal sites. Additionally ISPs are no longer allowed to host personal websites, leaving that firmly in the hands of businesses and companies under approval by the government.
