The director of Traveller’s Tales, Jon Burton, said that he is “more impressed” regarding the Sony motion controller than Microsoft’s Project Natal.
He was quoted by Develop as saying “I was actually more impressed with Sony’s motion capture solution than Microsoft’s Natal. Natal is exceedingly clever, but the lag on the input and lack of physical buttons is really going to restrict the kind of games that can be done with it.”
He also cited the cheapness and accuracy of the Sony controller as reasons why it will be a more successful product and one that he believes developers will prefer to work with.
However the Traveler’s Tales man, responsible for the LEGO series of games, did say that the Natal software was “nothing short of amazing” in other areas including it’s motion capture ability.
After Wii showed how popular mtion sensor based interactive games could be the other main rivals wanted to get in on the action. This means we will now see the Xbox 360 Natal being launched sometime in 2010 the focus of which will be “controller free gameplay”.
Sony are due to follow suit in Spring and as of yet have revealed no details regarding their controllers. These comments from Burton though are sure to peak people’s interests.
