China Google Attack Coder Found

Remember when Google threatened to pull out of the Chinese market?

Google had its Google Mail compromised in China and has since suspected the Chinese government was involved. Eventually the search was pinpointed to a University in China, as reported by the New York Times. The University denied knowledge of the attack, however conceded there were students that could be capable of launching attacks without their knowledge. Now it seems a Security Consultant in China, according to the Financial Times, is the one behind the code that was used in the attack.

The code was used to attack Internet Explorer 6 to gain access to users web based e-mail accounts from Google using its chat functionality. The coder posted his work on a Chinese hacking forum and has been identified through that – however he is not suspected as the one to have carried out the actual attacks.
