Lucidlogix Hydra Investment

Product imageLucidlogix has had an investment boost of $8 million after it has demonstrated its new technology that combines Radeon and Geforce cards together.

The company is behind the creation and development of the Hydra 200 chip. This promising technology has had a rollercoaster ride recently in trying to get implemented in its target market. The Hydra 200 allows users to combine graphics card from different vendors, different performance categories and even different IHV’s for a performance boost much like Crossfire X and SLI – but with the added flexibility.

Currently available on some MSI Big Bang Fuzion motherboards the initial release was delayed due to software stability glitches. Speculation on the internet was that NVIDIA had strong armed MSI into dropping or postponing the product and sticking with NVIDIA’s PCIe bridge chip for vendor approved SLI. Both AMD and NVIDIA are cautious about Lucidlogix technology as it competes with their Crossfire X and SLI solutions, but NVIDIA denied any strong arm tactics against MSI’s implementation in late 2009.

Earlier Fudzilla reported the combination of a GTX 260 and Radeon 5770 working in tandem boosting performance by up to 32% which is nothing to be sniffed at and likely to improve as Lucidlogix’s experience grows.

The current investment capital will bolster development and allow Lucidlogix to enter the motherboard add-on chipset market which is reserved for Intel, AMD and NVIDIA at the moment.

“Lucid is making the natural transition from a research and development startup to a silicon-product company,” said Offir Remez, Lucid co-founder and President. “We are working with leading strategic partners in the PC market during this critical time to deliver on our promises and grow the company, therefore the ongoing support by our investors is extremely valuable.”
