NVIDIA Optimus Wirelessly

Matt Wuebbling from NVIDIA lets the world know how excited he is at the prospect of wireless displays (WiDi) that Intel launched at CES last year and how it well works with NVIDIA’s recently launched Optimus technology. In fact, in his own words, “the engineer inside him geeks out.”

“The way Optimus works with Intel WiDi is pretty impressive–meaning there is no additional hardware or software changes required. A notebook manufacturer simply needs to build a notebook that meets the Intel WiDi design requirements, and the NVIDIA Optimus design requirements, and it just works.”

A standard way of getting images and movies on to a TV through a laptop is indeed excellent news however, “It’s important to note that Optimus doesn’t magically resolve issues with protected content or latency to the wireless display. But the intended use case of wirelessly sharing movies and photos works perfectly.” Looks like a great way to display movies on a big screen without the hassle of wires but not so great for gaming which depend on low latency as many an FPS fan will tell you.
