Intel: Sandybridge 32nm This Year

Intel has promised their next gen CPU codenamed Sandybridge for 2010.

The new CPU is an upgrade over the Nehalem architecture much like Core 2 Duo was upgraded by the Core i7. Combining a memory controller and 6th generation Intel graphics the focus has been on AES-NI and compute power with the introduction of Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX). Built on the 32nm node technology with high-K Metal Gate the new processor arch is expected to offer performance improvements over the already impressive Nehalem architecture in several areas.

AMD’s answer is not scheduled until 2011 with Bulldozer. We can also expect Ivy Bridge on 22nm at some point.
