Netbooks Get Bigger

Netbooks Get Bigger

Netbooks have tiny screens and the biggest you could find when they first launched was 10.1 inches.

Why the issue with panel sizes? Intel did not intend Atom to be such a massive hit but when Netbooks took off Intel had restrictions on its Netbook panel sizes to not encroach on its mobile processors where the ASP is said to be much higher.

Intel introduced this artificial restriction and therefore ensured the clear market segmentation of Netbooks to Notebooks but that is about to change according to Digitimes.

With the more powerful N550 processor and soon the Z6xx series and fierce competition from AMD in the same segment Intel will allow netbook screens to grow to a massive 11.6 inches and 12.1 inches soon.

However it is not the size that matters but what you do with it that counts. E-mail and web browsing anyone?
