NVIDIA Releases Fermi

NVIDIA’s latest GPU finally makes it to the GPGPU crowd.

Many dismiss the server market but NVIDIA have shown in previous years that the GPGPU market is booming as well as in dire need of more parallel performance. In many ways the “Fermi” architecture in NVIDIA’s new DirectX 11 GPU was tailored to this market with a sizeable L2 cache as well as support for memory correction and high double precision performance.

NVIDIA has announced the Tesla M2050 and M2070 with 448 CUDA core servers with NVIDIA GPU’s incorporated, apparently not just to play Crysis with. With 515 Gigaflops of peak double precision performance, ECC memory and up to 6GB of GDDR5 memory the new GPGPU’s are going to be the fastest for their target market.
