ASRock Core 100-HT-BD (Mini Core i3 HTPC)

Over the last couple of years, essentially since the release of NVIDIA’s ION platform, there has been a big push from many major manufacturers to produce the best compact system. Notable releases have come from manufacturers such as Acer, ASUS and ASRock. In fact the original ION system and more recent 330HT-BD from ASRock were two of the best machines in their generation. Offering design, features and performance which their competitors found hard to match.

Today ASRock are back with an updated model, based on Intel’s Core i3/HM55 platform, which aims to take performance into the arena of a full desktop PC whilst maintaining the same footprint as their last generation ION system. Can it be done? Let’s find out as we take the Core 100HT-BD through a selection of real world tests including StarCraft 2, media encoding and high definition playback.
