Corsair H70 Hydro CPU Cooler

There are a number of highly competitive areas in the PC component industry, graphics cards is a particularly easy one to guess. CPUs… for a while that was a heavily competitive area but now it isnt as much and SSD manufacturers tend to push their products advantages more than AMD and Intel. Then there are the more surprising areas, thermal paste for example, where it seems like a cut-throat industry with some manufacturers locked in a battle to outperform any new release from a competitor.

It now seems that liquid cooling is joining that list with quite a battle taking place over the last year or two. The product that kicked off a mini revolution was the CoolIT Domino, a cooler which allowed novice users the ability to install a liquid cooling product very easily and quickly. Often more so than a high performance air cooler. The first product to take on the Domino at its own game was the Corsair H50 which was a very successful product, outperforming the Domino in performance, quality and value but not quite getting the same ease of use level. CoolIT countered this with the ECO a few months ago, refining the Domino design whilst improving quality and then just a few weeks ago they released a new high performance model called Vantage. The Vantage A.L.C. has a number of unique features and shares some with the ECO but its main achievement was that it outperformed all of the competition.

This meant that Corsair still had a good product on the market in the shape of the H50 however it was sitting in a more crowded marketplace. With the successful launch of new air coolers, the A50 and A70, under their belts Corsair have been quick to follow, some would say counter, the release of the Vantage with a new liquid cooler called the H70.

On our test bench today we have the H70 and we will be putting it through its paces against the H50, CoolIT Vantage and Tuniq Tower 120 Extreme to establish where Corsairs latest product sits in the marketplace. Have they improved on the H50 and more importantly can they give us a strong reason to choose the H70 over products such as the Tuniq Extreme and CoolIT Vantage?
