XFX ATI Radeon HD 5970 4GB Black Edition Limited

There are times when manufacturers like to keep their latest product under wraps until the day of launch. Then there are times when a manufacturer has something they feel is so impressive that they just can’t help themselves and so they leak information on the product. A product which falls into the second category is the XFX Radeon HD 5970 Black Edition Limited and over the past few months we have seen all sorts of information from leaked PR shots to mailing campaigns claiming that one of these very rare cards has been lost/stolen.

It would be fair to say that XFX have been quite successful with this approach and in enthusiast circles many consumers have been eager to see what the factory overclocked 4GB retail product was like.

Today we get the chance to find out as we put sample 0021 through its paces. Tests will cover 5760×1080 Eyefinity gaming, GPU computing, HD playback and the usual selection of single screen gameplay… is this the most extreme 5970 ever? Can it play the latest games including Mafia 2 and StarCraft 2 at 5760×1080? Let’s find out…
