Corsair HS1 Headset Review

Corsair HS1 USB Gaming Headset – Introduction

So, if anyone had asked us a year ago "what is the next area that Corsair would branch out into?" we can say with absolute certainty that our response would not have been audio. Some sort of peripheral, a mouse or keyboard maybe but audio… not a chance. It was therefore with a certain amount of surprise that we saw Corsair soft launch the HS1 gaming headset a few weeks back.

Experience tells us one thing though and that is when Corsair branch out into a new area they are 100% focused on producing one of the best, if not the best products available in that market. In the case of Gaming Headsets Corsair have designed a new model from the ground up, hiring some significant talent from around the audio industry in an attempt to create a class leading headset. When we say that the audio team contains members who previously worked for Creative, Logitech, M-Audio and Avid it should be clear that this is not going to be an ordinary launch of an entry product.

It was therefore no surprise that initial impressions in articles from the press tour seemed positive. That said, with audio products there is no better way to test them than in a controlled environment with the source material that our ears know and love. So today, after the best part of a week constantly using the HS1 we have our review of Corsair’s latest product. How does it compare to our experiences with competitors such as the PC300 range from Sennheiser or the 7H from SteelSeries? Let’s find out.
