It’s hard to believe that it has been nearly 4 months since the Radeon 6800 series was launched by AMD but that is the case. When it was first launched we found that the 6870 was a desirable alternative to the GTX 470 thanks to its better thermal performance and features such as the ability to power 3 screens from one card. The 6870 was also, more often than not, faster than the GTX 460 which made it a strong contender in the mainstream market. Since then though things have become a little more interesting with the release of the GTX 560 Ti and a number of enhanced 6870 models.

One of the more recent enhanced 6870 versions to hit the market is Sapphires Vapor-X model. It features a custom PCB and enhanced cooler to make it stand out from the crowd and that, combined with Sapphires TriXX utility for overclocking and voltage increases means we have a very interesting product on our test bench today. As always it will be put through a selection of real world gaming, media and GPU computing tests, including stereoscopic 3D, to find out whether it is worth purchasing over the competition.
