DiRT 3 features a new version of Codemasters EGO engine which, like the DiRT 2 and F1 2010 versions, features support for DirectX 11. DirectX 11 mode is enabled by selecting ultra-detail and from this we gain improvements such as enhanced lighting and advanced tessellation.
Testing was performed at 1920×1080/1680×1050 and ultra in game settings were enabled as well as 8x anti-aliasing and 16x anisotropic filtering.
Earlier in the review we saw the GTX 560 breeze through Portal 2 with 8x anti-aliasing and 16x anisotropic filtering. The same can be said of DiRT 3 where the card, even with Ultra/DirectX 11 settings enabled, never drops below 46 frames per second with high levels of AA/AF. Because of this the game looks and plays great.
