PSN Raises $1.5m for Japanese Disaster

PSN users have raised over a million pounds to help the Japanese earthquake disaster that happened earlier this year, Sony has revealed. More than 129.7 million yen – which equates to $1.5m / £1.01m – has been donated through the PlayStation Network since the relief effort launched on March 21, with anyone giving money rewarded with an exclusive PlayStation 3 theme.
Sony has also revealed how the different territories donated, with Europe and PAL PSN users giving the lion’s share of the total by raising $877,591 / £538,122. North Americans have raised $425,576 / £260,955 so far, fellow Asian countries gave $27,189 / £16,673 and finally Japanese PSN users donated $296,388 / £181,751.
The money has gone to organisations supporting the on-going relief effort, including the American Red Cross, the British Red Cross for Europe and the Red Feather Community Chest Movement for Japan and Asia.
There’s still time to donate if you haven’t already – simply fire up your PS3 and head on over to the PSN Store.
