OCZ RevoDrive 3 X2 (480GB) - Bootable PCIe Solid State Drive Review

Install Times (Windows/Office 2010)

Benchmark Results

Installing Windows, chances are that all of us have to do it at one point or another and while it is not essential to have fantastic performance in this area, it is a good test for writing a large amount of data to the drive in a short space of time. This is especially useful due to the fact the variation in file sizes being written is huge. The time taken is recorded from the moment we begin the install, after partitioning and formatting to when the prompt appears where we choose our username.

Installing Windows 7 on the RevoDrive 3 X2 is a simple process, even on the latest Z68 motherboards. For our PCIe Gen 3 model we simply ran the installer, pointed it at the OCZ driver, selected the drive (formatting and partitioning to our needs) and then less than six minutes later our operating system was ready to use. In terms of performance in this test we are seeing limitations of the installation media, though the PCIe models do squeeze a little extra out of the process.

When installing Office we see a near identical result to Windows where the new RevoDrive is fastest, but only a little due to the limitations of the installer.
