THQ: Crytek Working On Next Homefront

Publisher THQ announced today that the next title in the Homefront first-person shooter series will be developed by Crysis developer Crytek.

The original Homefront was developed by Kaos Studios, and surpassed one million sales in its first week after launch, despite mixed reviews.

THQ then announced during the summer than it was fully closing Kaos Studios as part of a “strategic realignment,” just months after the launch of Homefront. However, the publisher said that despite the closure, the series would still continue.

Now it has revealed that Crytek will be taking over the reins, and is looking to release the next in the series during fiscal 2014.

THQ’s Danny Bilson said, “Selecting Crytek to take Homefront forward underscores our strategy of working with the industry’s best talent.”

“Homefront’s unique setting and storyline captivated gamers the world over. With Crytek’s industry leading technology and legendary experience in the FPS genre, we’re supremely confident that the next Homefront will deliver that AAA-quality experience that players demand.”

Crytek founder Cevat Yerli agreed, noting that there is “a lot of potential” in the Homefront franchise.

“We believe that bringing our level of quality, creativity and production values to the next Homefront title, creates an opportunity for both THQ and Crytek to deliver a truly blockbuster game,” he said.
