AMD FX-8150 Black Edition 8-Core Processor Launch Review

Around 8 years ago AMD were going through a great phase where their FX range of Athlon CPUs were offering consumers industry leading performance in many scenarios. For example in games such as Unreal Tournament 2003 the frames per second figure achieved on these CPUs exceeded what was possible on the Intel equivalent, a key victory in spreading good word of mouth in enthusiast circles.

Since then the processor marketplace has changed significantly though and it could be argued that currently Intel is the manufacturer who offers the ideal products for enthusiasts and mainstream users. AMD on the other hand have created a range of APUs which offer a good alternative in the lower end of the market.

As is normally the case in this industry it has been clear for some time that AMD were working on a successor to their Phenom 2 X6 range, a new product which would take on the latest Core i5 and i7 CPUs on Intel’s socket 1156 platform.

Today we get to see for the first time how the top model in AMDs new FX range of CPUs, previously known as Bulldozer, performs against the existing Intel equivalent as we put the two CPUs head to head. Not only that though we will test their entire platform, testing gaming, USB 3.0, SATA 6Gb/s and PCIe performance.
