Worldwide Hard Drive Production Affected By Floods

Worldwide Hard Drive Production Affected By Floods

Anyone watching the news recently will be aware that there are severe problems in Thailand with flooding. Countless numbers of people have experienced severe disruption and hardship and that now seems to be spreading to some of the largest hardware manufacturers in the world.

Both Western Digital and Seagate are reporting problems that are likely to affect their ability to supply drives in the near future. Seagate say that their manufacturing facility is currently fine however their suppliers are experiencing issues which may limit availability of drives in near future.

Things are more serious for Western Digital however with the latest update being:

“The company now expects that the flooding of its Thailand facilities, combined with flood damage to the company’s supply chain in Thailand, will have significant impact on the companys overall operations and its ability to meet customer demand for its products in the December quarter.”

So it seems that the price and availability of drives may soon fluctuate but Western Digital were keen to point out that their staff were safe.
