ECS Elitegroup A990FXM-A (AM3+) Motherboard Review

Conclusion

With the A990FXM-A Black Series board ECS continue to impress us with their progress in the enthusiast market. The board, like a number of their other Black Series boards, looks great with the black PCB and grey/white hardware and across the motherboard are solid capacitors and quality components (e.g. Marvell SATA controller, ASMedia USB 3.0 Controller). The board is well designed with connectors positioned well for those who want to use larger graphics cards and nice touches such as external CMOS button, debug LED and dual height 8pin power socket all enhance the user experience.

In terms of performance the A990FXM-A competes well with other 990FX based boards and features such as support for 3-Way Crossfire, SATA3 and USB 3 ensure that we can get the most from our components. Something which is added to by the support of the latest AMD CPU’s and DDR3 in excess of 2000MHz.

It was also nice to see ECS now implementing a GUI BIOS, another way they match competitors such as MSI and ASUS. Bluetooth support is a nice addition too.

At the time of writing we have no pricing for the board however based on recent and long term experience with ECS products we expect them to be highly competitive. Bundled Cyberlink software adds to the overall value of the package.

Summary
Another impressive Black Series board from ECS. Packed with the latest performance features and support for the newest components the A990FXM-A is an ideal board to build a performance system around.
