Power / Temps / Noise and Overclocking

As the Radeon 6900 series, GTX 500 series and no doubt future generations perform power management in a different way to older cards we have changed the way we test power and temperature levels in our reviews. For idle power we list the full system use at the wall after sitting at the desktop with no activity for 5 minutes. Load power is the highest reading we saw for the full system when testing during this review. Temperatures are taken in the same way. Noise levels are taken after a period of prolonged gaming in a scenario which applied maximum load to the GPU.

  Devil 13 GTX 570 OC
Idle Power 85w 87w
Load Power 342w 335w
Idle Temp 35°C 41°C
Load Temp 90°C 86°C

Overall these are some decent readings for the Devil 13 card, tested with the performance BIOS, which shows good idle temperature and power use with the expected jump in heat and power at full load. Overall comparable readings with the GTX 570 OC.

In terms of noise levels the Devil 13 remains near silent on the standard BIOS, switch to performance and the balance is just about right with the card only becoming noticeable when placed under heavy load for significant periods of time. Here is an example of the maximum noise level at 1ft, it would of course be quieter if placed in a case.

Overclocking the Devil 13 is an easy task. We can do so in the driver control panel by selecting overdrive or with most 3rd party tools. As the card is heavily overclocked at the factory there are minimal benefits though and we achieved 20MHz on the core, 70MHz on memory.
