Later today Alienware will announce the X51 Desktop PC, a small form factor system which contains full sized desktop components. Here at Hardware Heaven we have all of the details on the system so let’s take a look at what it offers…
Only a little bigger than the Xbox 360 the Alienware X51m will retail at £699 for the entry level model containing an Intel Core i3 CPU and the option for i5 and i7 configurations is also available. The Intel CPU will be paired with 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GT545 or GTX 555 graphics cards and up to 8GB of dual channel memory with a 1TB, 7200RPM drive as standard.
The Alienware X51 Chassis features a unique curved design for the sides and is able to be installed horizontally or vertically and upgraded with standard desktop parts by the customer. Alien FX lighting is fitted as standard offering the consumer the option to configure front and side lighting and in terms of connectivity it will offer front panel USB 2.0 and 3.5mm audio ports. A slot loading optical drive is the other item of note on the front of the chassis and round the back are all the usual connectors including HDMI 1.4, USB 3.0, digital audio and Gigabit LAN.
Alienware will install Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit on the X51 and have indicated that it will offer playable performance in Battlefield 3 on all hardware configurations @ 1080p and high detail. Look out for pre-orders going live today with systems shipping, and in retail stores soon.
