Intel Sandy Bridge Extreme Core I7-3930K vs Core i7-3820 vs AMD FX-8150 vs Core i7-2700K vs Core i7-990X Review
In November Intel released the long awaited replacement for their aging X58 based platform. The new Sandy Bridge-E or i7-3900 series processors and X79 chipset brought, amongst other things, native SATA 3 support to Intel’s high end as well as laying the groundwork for consumers to move to PCIe 3.0.
When we tested the Core i7-3960X CPU, the highest specification chip in the new range, we found it offered unrivalled performance however that obviously brought with it a price premium. For those who want to move to the new architecture Intel do offer a number of lower priced CPUs and today we have two off them to evaluate.
The Core i7-3820 will be released soon and already available to buy is the i7-3930K. We will be taking a look at both to determine where they sit in comparison to the older i7-990X, AMD FX-8150 and Intel i7-2700K in a selection of real world and synthetic tests.
