Sapphire Radeon HD 7770 Overclocked

Over the last few months we have seen AMD and their partners, such as Sapphire, release a selection of new cards based on the new Graphics Core Next GPU. These 7000 series cards replaced the 6970/6950 at the top of AMD’s single GPU product stack and brought with them new features such as PCIe 3.0 and advanced power management. Key to their success has been some excellent gaming performance with the new cards offering framerates well in excess of anything the competition could offer.

As always though new high end components come with a price to match their features and performance and for many that is outwith their budget. For those on a more mainstream budget AMD are today releasing the 7700 series of cards. Based on the same GPU architecture (and features) as the 7900 series these new 7700 series models could well be the card to have in the first half of 2012.

In this article we will look at Sapphire’s 7770 Overclocked model which features a custom design and shall put it up against its direct competition from NVIDIA in the form of a GTX 560. As always we will be focusing on real world testing, including the latest games such as Battlefield 3 and some classics like World of Warcraft before moving on to media, power and thermal performance.
