Taking us into real world gaming tests is Battlefield 3 and we start with 1920×1080 at maximum detail where the reference clocked GTX 680 improves on the average framerate of an OC 580 by 17fps. It also increases the minimum framerate by 10fps. In the comparison with a standard 7970 it is also favourable with the new GeForce averaging nearly 15fps better, in fact it takes a heavily overclocked 7970 to compete at 1920×1080 so when we add the ASUS Max OC results they offer the highest performance in this test.

When we move to 5760×1080 the two Max OC models are near identical in performance, both averaging 30fps with the AMD card a little ahead on minfps, the GTX on maximum.

Here are examples of how the game looks at our tested settings.
