Crucial Adrenaline Solid State Cache (50GB) Review

Enhanced Performance (Cache Drive)

To test the performance of the Adrenaline drive we tested PCMark before and after the Dataplex install and also compared boot times and the time to load Skyrim, a recent and very popular game.

Benchmark Results

PCMark 7 features a set of storage tests which attempt to recreate real world performance scenarios such as importing images, converting media and scanning our drive for malware. In this test the performance improvements from mechanical to Cache are immediately obvious with the Crucial/Dataplex powered system hitting well over 2x the performance and closing in on the speed of a standalone 64GB m4 SSD which hits between 4700 and 4800 points.

Moving to real world tests the time recorded from the "Windows Starting" screen appearing to the stage when out pointer becomes active on the desktop decreases considerably when enabling the cache drive. We drop from 42 seconds to just 18 seconds and game performance is equally impressive. When loading Skyrim our time to reach a playable state changes from just under 30 seconds to 12 seconds.
