Intel Core i7-3770K "Ivy Bridge" CPU Launch Review

featuring GIGABYTE G1.Sniper 3 and GIGABYTE G1.Sniper M3

There is always an element of looking to the future when buying a new PC, or building one. Regardless of how much an individual spends on the latest and greatest kit there is always the niggling issue that something newer and faster is just round the corner. For those looking at new CPUs, Sandy Bridge based units were the mainstream option but check any forum and there was always mention of Ivy Bridge being finalised with promises of lower power use and some rather cool design work.

Earlier this month Intel released the Z77 chipset and we covered it in depth here. This new chipset and motherboards based on it were backwards compatible with the previous generation of CPUs based on Sandy Bridge but really the main aim was to provide a new platform for Ivy Bridge CPUs when they were launched.

Today Intel launch their CPU range and we are combining the i7-3770K with Gigabytes rather impressive looking G1.Sniper 3 and G1.Sniper M3 to find out if these components can make the ultimate Ivy Bridge System. Testing will of course include synthetic and real world, with the likes of 3DMark11 and Battlefield 3 making an appearance with the GeForce GTX 680.
