Despite the fact that Razer have a large product catalogue the reality is that regularly they take one model and tweak it for a specific audience, or take an ageing one and bring it up to date. There isnt anything necessarily wrong with this, after all if you have something classic like the DeathAdder design, why not make a similar mouse, but wireless…or bring it up to date with new internals. Similarly with the Naga, there will be those that want varied lighting, surface, colour, buttons… even branding. Everyone is different and that is something Razer have clearly grasped in recent years. That said when a new product comes to market they still know how to impress, the Blackwidow Ultimate keyboard as one example still sits at the high end of the gaming peripheral market as one of the finest products out there.

Recently we saw Razer take two approaches to new products, with the NAGA 2012 they updated the original to a new body and on the Blackshark brought to market a brand new headset. Now the mouse range gets another new family member with the launch of the Taipan. Designed to be ultra flexible (ambidextrous/all grip styles) and cutting edge (4G/dual sensors) it has been co-designed with some of the world’s leading gamers. Today we have a Taipan connected to our test system and will find out if it has the potential to meet everyones needs.

Packaging and Bundle

As is normal for Razer they package the Taipan in a cardboard box which flips open to reveal the mouse suspended under a plastic cover. A detailed image of the product is shown on the front and on each side are various specifications along with some key product details. Inside we find the documentation for the Taipan and a set of Razer stickers.
