In June we were lucky enough to get a look at a reference laptop from AMD. Utilising a rather basic chassis which made it look like the average laptop from years ago the machine actually contained AMDs new mobile APU platform, Trinity. Based on a new core design with updated GPU the system offered some excellent mobile performance which saw us able to game at detail (and power) levels which were previously not possible with an "onboard" GPU.

It was only a matter of time until the same technology made it into desktop systems and last week we got a glimpse of the potential performance with our gaming preview of the A10 chip. Today AMD launch the full platform and we now get the chance to look in detail at all aspects of its performance.

Can the new A10 series of APUs from AMD match, or even exceed Intels range of low/mid range CPUs? We find out now in a selection of real world gaming, multimedia, overclocking and productivity tests while also taking a look at how the APU can perform with a mid range GPU… and of course there are the standard memory, USB 3.0, SATA and PCIe tests to round things off.
