Icy Dock Hard Drive Bays (2-bay, 4-bay and 2-bay + Optical) Review

Almost all of us have spare drive bays on the front of our PCs and a fair number of us have either got spare parts kicking about or have run out of space inside our system for hard drives. Icy Dock are looking to solve several problems such as these with their drive racks/cages which are designed to add storage space to our otherwise empty front of case bays. Today we have three different models on our test bench to see how they perform.

Packaging and Bundle

Icy Dock MB996SP-6SB box Icy Dock MB996SP-6SB bundle

Icy Dock package the first of the devices in a package which does a good job of giving us a picture of the cage plus information on the features both on the front and back. Inside we find a manual and the screws required to install our drives.

Icy Dock MB992SK-B box Icy Dock MB992SK-B bundle

Packaged in a similar box to the 6 bay 5.25" model this 3.5" dual bay product is packaged in a smaller box but still gives us plenty of info. Inside we find a bag of screws, keys and the manual.

Icy Dock MB994IPO-3SB box Icy Dock MB994IPO-3SB bundle

Our final product for this roundup uses a more plain brown cardboard box however the bundle is still the same with screws for the case and trays.
